You get out of it what you put into it. With dance, it can be a very technical thing to learn, but can also be very rewarding as well. In order to fully experience the lessons and make sure your body is able to perform correctly, there are a couple of things you should do to prepare for your upcoming dance season. Whether you are returning or it is your first time, it will only benefit you to make sure your on top of everything!

Choose your classes wisely. We are ready to teach you and help you grow immensely with your dance skills. There are so many different styles we have to offer. And in order for us to teach you at the correct level, make sure you evaluate yourself and the different levels we have available to certain techniques so that you can be placed in the correct class. If you ever have any questions about placement and concerns please reach out to us and we will help you figure out the best class that fits you!

Balance your schedule. Once you have an idea of the classes you would like to try, take a look at the other events going on in your life. School, work, extracurricular activities, family. In order for you to be fully invested in the class and get the most out of it, you need to make sure you have the time for it. Spreading yourself too thin between everything going on in your life can affect your performance and we want you to be in the best place possible to learn, mentally and physically!

Inventory your dancewear. If you are returning for your next dance season then it is important to make sure all your dancewear is still up to par and if you are coming for the first time there is a couple of things you will want to have before hand. Each class can be a little different and may request different outfits for certain routines but the basics are what you are going to want to start with. You will want to make sure you have:

  • Any color leotard or fitted dance shorts and top
  • Tights (optional)
  • Correct dance shoes for each style

Check the dress code. Preparation goes beyond just scheduling and selecting classes. Before you arrive on the first day, make sure you are well aware of your specific class’s dress code, including not just the required outfit but the shoes as well. The shoes you practice in will be the same shoes you perform in so you want to make sure you have those ready to go at the very beginning of the season. Getting them ahead of time is also wise because if for any reason there are sizing issues and they do not fit right, it gives you some time to correct that and order different ones.

Stock your dance bag. If you are having to go from school to dance it makes it a lot easier to have you bag packed and ready to go. Especially if you are needing to get ready at the studio you want to make sure you have all your necessities in order. In order to always be prepared, your dance bag should consist of:

  • A water bottle
  • Dance shoes, leotard, and tights
  • Hair accessories

Mark your calendar. Dance season can go on for a while. It is important that as soon as you know all the different practices that you mark them down on your calendar so that you can make time for them. Dancing in a group your role can make a huge difference if you are not there. You want to make sure you are fully committed and can attend all the different performances and rehearsals.

Set goals for yourself. We want you to be the best dancer you can be and sometimes that requires pushing yourself. You are capable of so much more than you know. By setting goals at the beginning of the season, you are helping yourself realize exactly what it is you want to work on and improve. When class starts we’d be happy if you would like to share them with us so that we can go over them with you and find the best way possible to help you grow as a dancer.

Take care of your body. Mentally and physically. Make sure you are eating right and getting  the nourishment that your body needs so that it can be in the best shape possible to dance! Making sure you are getting enough sleep can greatly affect your performance as well. As well as stretching before and after class. We want you to be the best you can be on and off the dance floor so please love your body and care for it!

We are very excited to dance with you this season and get to know you! We want you to have the best experience possible here with us and hope that you are just as excited to get this season started!
